How long does a custom engagement ring take?

Most custom engagement rings are finished in approximately 4 to 6 weeks from the 50% deposit. That includes diamond sourcing, detailed 3D design approval, and production. Your initial consultation and proposal happen before the deposit, while insured FedEx shipping happens after the finished ring is approved and final payment is received.

Every project is personal, so unusual diamond specifications, design revisions, approval delays, or holidays may extend the timeline. If you have a proposal date in mind, we generally recommend getting in touch 8 to 10 weeks ahead.

Expedited timelines may be available on a case by case basis, depending on the design and production schedule.

Here’s how the custom process works.

Where the time goes

Here's how the process works, from the first call to delivery.

1. Complimentary design consultation (before your deposit).

Meet with a jewelry designer on a free 30-minute video call to discuss ideas, budget, diamond preferences, and timing. Bring an inspiration photo or simply your questions.

2. Proposal and preliminary sketch (before your deposit).

We prepare a proposal with a preliminary sketch of the ring design, so you can review the direction and price before deciding to proceed.

3. Approve your proposal and pay the 50% deposit.

The project starts here. The usual 4–6-week window runs from your deposit to the finished ring, not from the later CAD or diamond approval.

4. Group chat and diamond sourcing.

After the deposit, we open a group chat with you for direct updates and feedback. Alain begins sourcing diamond options suited to the design and budget. You review and approve your diamond before moving forward.

5. Detailed 3D CAD design and approval.

We develop the detailed 3D design, share it for your review, and refine it as needed. Nothing moves into production until the required diamond and 3D design approvals are complete.

6. Production.

With the diamond and CAD approved, your ring is made. The sourcing, design and production stages together fall within the typical 4–6 weeks from deposit to finished ring.

7. Finished ring and final approval.

We share final videos for your approval and collect the remaining payment before shipping.

8. Insured FedEx delivery.

We ship finished jewelry via FedEx, insured, with a signature required. We serve clients worldwide. Shipping time is additional and depends on destination, service and customs arrangements where applicable.

What can add time

  • More rounds of design changes. Extra 3D revisions are normal and worth it, but each one can add days. It helps to know roughly what you want (shape, setting style, metal) before the first 3D design.

  • A very specific diamond. A particular shape, size, or set of grading priorities can take longer to find. Being flexible on one or two specs usually opens up more options.

  • Lab-grown or natural. In our process, natural diamonds generally take longer to source than lab-grown, though it varies by stone. See how lab-grown and natural diamonds compare.

  • Time between approvals. Each stage waits on your sign-off. If you're traveling, or need time to check details without giving the surprise away, plan for that.

  • Design complexity. Unusually detailed settings, like pavé, hidden halos, or intricate band work, can take longer.

  • Holidays. Holidays can stretch the overall calendar time, so give yourself extra margin around them.

  • Being there for delivery. Delivery requires a signature, so plan for someone to be available to receive it.

Planning around a proposal date

Your proposal date is fixed, and a custom ring has steps that take time. The best way to protect the date is to start early and leave some margin.

  • Reach out about 8 to 10 weeks ahead. As a general guide, get in touch about 8 to 10 weeks before your proposal date. That leaves room for the initial call and proposal, the usual 4–6 weeks after deposit, and insured shipping. It's a planning guide, not a guarantee.

  • Tell us the date on the first call. We'll tell you whether it looks comfortable, tight, or unrealistic for the design you have in mind.

  • Short on time? Rush production may be available on some projects. See the rush question below.

  • Decide what's flexible. If time is short, a simpler design or more open diamond specs can help.

  • Busy seasons. If you're planning around the holidays, Valentine's Day, or another popular time to propose, start sooner rather than later.

  • Have a backup plan you're comfortable with. Some people propose with a meaningful stand-in ring and give the finished ring when it arrives. Others move the date. Choose what fits your relationship.

Questions about timing

Can you guarantee my ring by a specific date?

We don't promise exact delivery dates because sourcing, approvals and shipping can vary. Tell Alyssa your proposal date on the first call. We'll be honest about whether it's realistic and plan accordingly.

Do you offer rush production?

Yes, on some projects. Whether it's possible depends on the design, the diamond and our schedule at the time. We review requests individually and can't promise it for every ring.

Does the price affect how long it takes?

Usually not directly. Design complexity, how specific your diamond criteria are, and how quickly approvals come together matter more than budget. See what drives the cost of a custom engagement ring.
